INCREDIBLE Edible Rossendale (IER) has established a new area to work in at the Orchard, Haslingden, opposite the Adrenaline Centre on Helmshore Road.
The park had some fruit trees but had fallen into neglect but a local guy, Joey, wanted to rejuvenate the trees and start looking after them.
IER got involved and together we are weeding, litter picking, giving the trees some care with manure and some pruning, and the area is starting to look a whole lot better.
We’ve even planted blackcurrant and gooseberry bushes to hopefully provide the local people with some fresh fruit in future years.
Manchester firm E3P, which operates throughout the North West, has helped us go one step further by buying a new noticeboard which has now been erected by Joy McCarthy and her husband.
We can now display notices of events, meetings, wildlife posters, children’s activities and healthy eating recipes to promote good health.
E3P specialise in offering advice on the environment, ranging from air quality to regeneration of derelict brownfield land, and were involved in the regeneration of the former
Reedsholme works brownfield site in Rawtenstall to produce safe, environmentally friendly development of the site for new housing.
Some people may remember how the area - historically a specialist textile industry - used to look.
They said: “Supporting local community groups and giving something back is at the heart of our ethos and we are proud to be involved with these incredible causes”.
