Young scientists are STEM-sational

-

ALDER Grange School hosted a science fair to showcase the pupils’ skills in STEM subjects.

Despite the many hurdles that appeared along the way in the form of the pandemic, the school was able to host the event and have pupils, staff and visitors attend outside, in a Covid secure setting.

A spokesman said: “Highlights of the fair: Abi running across Oobleck that she created in a paddling pool and Asim, becoming part cyborg, with his creation to use a motor to charge a power bank, allowing him to cgo for a run and charge his phone.”

It was third time lucky, for a group of Year 11 boys as they were successful in winning the STEM (Science, Technology, Maths and Engineering) prize, which recognised their amazing contribution to all four aspects of STEM and winning a £50 Amazon Voucher donated by Global Invacom.

Maddison Gregory, winner of the first prize winner which was sponsored by Ryder Dutton estate agents, said “I joined Alder Grange in January 2021, I absolutely love it here. Alder Grange has a STEM Club and a Science Fair every year; my old school didn’t have anything as good as this!”.

“It is fair to say that Alder Grange has managed to pull together a community on a worthwhile event, despite the setbacks that Covid threw their way.“

Local companies such as Ryder & Dutton Estate Agents, Global Invacom, Infinite Reality, Ward Dynamic and WEIR Mineral invested in making the Science Fair the success it was. Alder Grange are excited to host their fourth Science Fair in 2022.

If you would like to get involved as a sponsor or be a judge for next year’s event then please contact the school on stem@ aldergrange.com.
