TV actress Enid Dunn was left fighting back tears after a Good Samaritan returned her lost purse after her Aldi shop.

Enid, 77, who has starred in a raft of TV dramas including Phoenix Nights, Bancroft, Cutting It and Coronation Street, has sent out a message of thanks after the act of kindness at the supermarket in Rawtenstall.

Enid was left shaken when she realised she didn’t have her purse after shopping in the town at the weekend.

But when the mum and grandma retraced her steps, she was delighted to discover a Good Samaritan had handed in her purse at the Aldi store on New Hall Hey Road.

It was particularly emotional for Enid as the purse contained a precious memory of her mum that she’s had for 45 years.

Enid told her Facebook friends on Saturday: “A big thank you to the person who handed in my purse at Aldi in Rawtenstall this afternoon. I had foolishly left it on the packing station.”

Enid went on to say it was not until she called at a local garden centre that she realised it was missing and the hunt for the purse began.

“Of course I was in such a panic,” she said.

“The girl behind the counter at the garden centre was called Mandy - she even rang the shops where I thought it could be

“A big thank you to her as well.

“There are so many good people, yet we only read about the bad.

“Thank you, thank you, thank you.”

Enid, who lives with husband Paul in Greenmount, told the Free Press it was such a relief to get the purse back because of the personal items it contained.

She said: “I’ve no idea who it was who handed it in but I’m eternally grateful.”

She added: “I started to cry when they handed me my purse.

“Glad I wore my mask as I must have looked a sight.

“It’s not about the money but my whole life is in it - bus pass, driving licence, bank cards.

“I even had a note from my mum, which is a keepsake that I’ve had for 45 years.”

Friends rushed to send their best wishes to Enid after she shared her story.

One said: “That must have been awful Enid, but a good outcome and restores the faith in humankind,” while another added: “So glad it had a happy, heartwarming ending.”
