Grades add up for Phoebe while Eve aims for law career

A-Levels at Rochdale Sixth Form beckon for Phoebe Brophy after achieving top GCSE Grade 9s in Mathematic­s, double science, Art and Religious Studies at WHITWORTH COMMUNITY HIGH SCHOOL.

Phoebe also gained a Level 2 Distinctio­n in Business and a further three Grade 8s in Geography, English Language and Literature.

She is looking to take Mathematic­s, Law and Business A-Levels, but does not know yet what career she wants to pursue.

A law career is on the cards for Eve Butterwort­h-Bennion after she gained Grade 9s in English Literature and Language, Sociology, Religious Studies, Science and Design Technology along with four other Grade 8s.

She said: “I hope to go to university and although I do not know what career I want to do, it will be something to do with law.

“School has been really good and I have really enjoyed it.

“I am really chuffed with my results; they are better than I thought I would get.”

Eve will be taking

A-Levels in English, Law and Sociology at Rochdale Sixth Form.

A forensic science career is on its way for Rhiannon Fenwick after excellent results.

She said: “I got Grade 9s in English Literature and Language, Science and Religious Studies, five Grade 8s and a Grade 7 in Spanish. I am so shocked about Spanish because I didn’t think I would pass it.

“Forensic Science has always interested me because I like the idea of finding answers from evidence.”

With plans to be a teaching assistant, Katie Howarth has got her career off to a flying start with Grade 7s in English Literature and Language, History, Religious Studies and Sociology, and a further five GCSEs.

She said: “I am going to Burnley College where I will be studying A-Levels in Sociology, Politics and Classical Civilisati­on and then I want to do a degree in Sociology.”

Having spent six months in hospital in Year 10, Chloe Carroll was delighted to achieve Grade 9s in seven of her GCSEs.

Along with the top grades for English Literature and Language, Double Science, Geography, Religious Studies and Sociology, for her Health and Social Care, she achieved a Level 2 Distinctio­n, a Grade 8 in Maths and Grade 7 in Spanish.

Chloe said: “After being in hospital, I had to catch up so I can’t believe I managed to get seven Grade 9s.

“I want to be a veterinary surgeon and will be studying at university.

“I have a rabbit at the moment and I am soon to be getting two white tree frogs; I already have the terrarium.”

After a lengthy selection process, Shaun Stephen was successful in securing a place at Stonyhurst College where he will be taking an Internatio­nal Baccalaure­ate.

In the long-term, he hopes to have a career in engineerin­g and may be looking at an apprentice­ship in a major organisati­on like BA Systems.

Shaun achieved Grade 7s in English Literature and Language and Mathematic­s, four other GCSEs and a Level 2 Distinctio­n Star in Business and Enterprise.

BACUP & RAWTENSTAL­L GRAMMAR SCHOOL headteache­r Alan Porteous said on Thursday: “Congratula­tions to all of our Year 11 students who receive their GCSE results today; we are really proud of what they have achieved, in hugely challengin­g circumstan­ces.

“We look forward to welcoming many of them back into the sixth form to begin their A-Level studies next term.”

Elizabeth Murphy, aka Lilly, got all 7s and above including four 9s.
