Groups share out £11,000 windfall
LOCAL groups have been selected to share grants of more than £11,000 through the Reaps Moss Community Fund.
The wind farm has been provided funding through its Community Fund since 2016. The seven groups from Bacup and Todmorden selected to receive funding this year join a growing list of other recipients who have benefited from the Fund since it launched.
Aged Blind and Disabled Centre (Bacup) Charitable Trust will receive £779 to provide stage lighting to enable them to put on community events and performances at the ABD Centre.
Peter Dunn, centre development manager, said it was “fantastic news”. This funding will enable us to reengage with vulnerable adults who have been isolated due to Covid. After Covid a lot of work will be needed to address social isolation and mental illhealth and this funding will allow us to put community events on and support people back into the centre/ community.”
Stacksteads Countryside Park Group have scooped £1,275 for their project ‘Make the Cycleway Beautiful’, which will see the community work with a local artist to create wooden plaques of local wildlife which will be erected along the cycleway that runs through Britannia.
Trustee Jackie Oakes said: “We are delighted that we are able to extend the project to the Reaps Moss Community Fund area of benefit. This is an activity that can be enjoyed by residents of all ages, and the plaques already displayed in Stacksteads show the hidden talent in the village! Support for the project has been fantastic and the cycleway will be brightened up to be enjoyed by everyone who uses it.”
Other local groups also able to deliver services and make improvements to their facilities thanks to grant support are Cotton Shed Theatre Group, Bacup Pride, Stacksteads Band, TodWalkers, and Todmorden in Bloom.
The funding for the Community Fund is provided by Reaps Moss Wind Farm which is managed by independent investment firm, Vantage Infrastructure with support of Partnerships for Renewables. The Fund distributes £10,000 annually over the 20 to 25-year lifetime of the project.
Groups located in the Fund’s specified funding ‘zone’ which covers the Greensclough, Irwell and Stacksteads wards of Bacup, along with Todmorden, can apply for grants of between £250 and £3,500. The Fund is being administered by national charity GrantScape.
Groups wishing to make an application can do so using a simple online application form which can be found on the GrantScape website www.grantscape. org.uk. They can also contact the Grant Team at GrantScape on 01908 247630 if they would like to discuss a potential project or require assistance in making an application. The application deadline for the Reaps Moss Community Fund 2022 is February 23, 2022.
