West Lancs League

Division Two

Saturday 14th August 2021 Rossendale FC 6 v Cartmel & District FC 0

ROSSENDALE returned to Marl Pitts for a home match against Cartmel & District and carried on where they left off in their first two matches with a crushing 6-0 victory.

Rossendale made another fast start going ahead after just seven minutes when Paul Stannard played in Joe Haworth, who slipped the ball past the keeper into the corner of the net.

Rossendale continued to dominate the match, carving holes in the Cartmel defence and creating several chances which weren’t taken, although Cartmel weren’t creating any clear cut chances.

The Stags needed that second goal, and it duly came on 38 minutes when the ball was played in to Tom Hulme, who made no mistake to double the Stags lead.

The scores remained the same at the break and

Cartmel must have thought they were in with a chance with all the possession Rossendale had and the chances they created they were only two goals behind.

But their hopes was short lived as early as the 49th minute when a good team goal ended with Mickey Saunders tapping the ball home to give the Stags a comfortable 3-0 lead.

With Cartmel team tiring, three goals in 12 minutes floored the visitors.

Tom Hulme got the Stags’ fourth goal on 56 minutes with a neat finish for his seventh goal in three games.

Six minutes later, Paul Stannard headed the ball home from a Joe Haworth right wing corner.

Then on 62 minutes the finish of the game was produced when a super ball forward found Luke Simpson and without breaking stride he controlled the ball and lashed it home past the startled Cartmel defenders.

To be fair, Cartmel kept trying and Rossendale keeper Vinny McLaughlin had to make two brilliant point blank saves to ensure the Stags kept their third clean sheet in a row. 15 goals in 3 games a goal difference of plus 15 keeps them at the top of the table after three games.

It surely is a compliment when the opposition coach tells his players after a 6-0 defeat they shouldn’t worry about the result against a team as good as Rossendale were on the day.

Rossendale’s impressive form comes from smart attacking football, closing down of the opposition, the determination not to concede and their overall fitness at the moment is a joy to watch.

Rossendale are now on the road for three testing away games.

This Saturday sees the longest road trip of the season as they travel to play Walney Island, with a 3.00pm kick off.
