Cheese bar laughs off ‘snobby’ review

THE owner of a popular cafe-cum-cheese and wine bar blasted in a review for being ‘full of pretentious prats with their babies’ says she thinks it’s ‘hilarious’.

And scores of regular customers have posted messages on social media in support of The Mouse Trap on Bolton Street, Ramsbottom.

The scathing write-up on Trip Advisor was posted by an author under the heading ‘The Real Housewives of Rammy Outing’ and said the outlet was ‘boring to say the least’.

It went on: “Full of pretentious prats with their babies - out of townies - hardly any ‘real’ local atmosphere and I don’t mean people who have moved here in the last few years.

“Rammy is northern but has lost so much of its heritage because of these places and the kind of people it brings in - middle class stuck up Henriettas and Henrys who think they are Rammy folk now because they have moved here - us locals who have lived here for generations are angry and deeply saddened at the death of Rammy as we have always known it - felt out of place in our town where we have all lived for over 50 years!

“Far too snobby for our liking - we are salt of the earth folk - more like a creche too - no atmosphere at all, but that’s because all the real locals don’t touch places like this! I can get this cheese at Morrisons so nothing special as well?”

The Mouse Trap is owned by Melissa Seddon, 36, who has been running the shop for five years.

Melissa, her 41-year-old husband Gareth and their daughter, aged three, actually moved out of Ramsbottom because their property was too expensive and now live in Rawtenstall.

She told the Free Press: “I think the views expressed in her review are more of a reflection on her.

“Does she really mean that the only people who should go out and have something to eat and drink in Ramsbottom are people who have only ever lived there for decades?

“It’s hilarious.

“We have lots of loyal customers who enjoy coming in here and they have found it genuinely funny.”

Responding to the review, a post on the Mouse Trap’s Facebook page added: “What a review!

“We can’t decide our fave bit, is it that there’s a lovely lady out there who refers to herself as a ‘Real Housewife of Rammy’?

“Or do we prefer that we get all the Henrietta’s & Henry’s?

“I wonder if she thinks it’s a town or a village though?!

“Actual LOL’s at this today! We can assure you that you CANNOT get our cheese from Morrisons though.”

Nearly 200 posts have appeared on The Mouse Trap’s Facebook page in support of Melissa’s business.

One response, from Facebook user Katie Zebedee-Smith said: “Being family friendly shouldn’t be seen as a negative! There need to be more child friendly places around.

“God forbid parents enjoy a nice drink and some decent food.”

A third, Sarah Chadwick, posted: “Keep up the good work guys, we all know a misery like this don’t we! X love the atmosphere and the cheese.”
