Ten-man Rams’ heaviest defeat

-

WARRINGTON RYLANDS ... 8 RAMSBOTTOM UTD ....... 0

RAMSBOTTOM United suffered their worst ever defeat after an 8-0 drubbing at Gorsey Lane.

Despite Rammy’s promising start to the game – an early effort from Jamie Rother raising the hopes of the travelling supporters – the fortunes of the visitors quickly changed when referee Oliver Noonan awarded a penalty to the home side after George Wyatt’s challenge inside the area.

The Rams number five picked up a red card for his troubles and despite the penalty being blasted wide this really put Ramsbottom on the back foot.

Not long after, on 26 minutes, former Rochdale and Northampton player Joe Bunney put the hosts ahead with a well taken effort, slotting the ball past the outstretched arm of Stewart.

Bunney soon got his and Warrington’s second of the afternoon, calmly taking the ball past two Rammy defenders and smashing it into the bottom corner.

Owen Collinge nearly got the away side back into the game after taking the ball past three Ryland defenders but his effort somehow evaded the target.

Warrington added a third just before the break on 42 minutes.

Drummond saw a good effort saved by Tom Stewart but the ball fell perfectly for Declan Walker who nodded home from six yards out.

When the second half got under way it was more of the same from the hosts, keeping the heat on the ten men of Ramsbottom.

The pressure told once again when Adam Buxton made it four with a deflected effort that sent Stewart the wrong way.

Bunney then secured his hat-trick as he scored the fifth of the afternoon with a lovely strike into the bottom left hand corner.

Kane Drummond made it six for the hosts on 67 minutes as he saw his long-range effort bobble over the Rams number one.

And Drummond quickly made it a brace, a coolly taken effort inside

the box on 75 minutes for Warrington’s seventh.

Just three minutes later Walker grabbed his second of the afternoon with a well driven effort putting the home side eight goals to the good.

A dismal day for the Rams as they suffered their heaviest ever defeat in what was a game that was massively impacted by a red card.

The result saw the Rams slip to 11th while Rylands rose into the top three.

Ramsbottom take on Clitheroe at home on Saturday 4th December and Lee Donafee and his lads will be hoping for a much better outcome.
