ROSSENDALE RAMBLERS

-

OUR two walks last week were very contrasting once again, though both had a historical side to them.

On Wednesday, April 6, 14 ramblers had an exhilarating and sometimes wet and windy 11-mile walk from Holmfirth, home of ‘Last of the Summer Wine.’

A lovely aspect of this walk was the discovery that Bill Owen (Compo) and Peter Sallis (Cleggy) are buried beside each other in the local cemetery.

Then on Sunday, April 10, 15 walkers enjoyed a sunny and scenic six-mile walk whilst following part of the Lancashire Witches Walk from Barrowford.

Coming up we have four walks in Easter week – probably our busiest week of the year.

On Saturday, April 16, we offer a two-hour pub walk from Lumb, with an optional lunch afterwards.

On the day after we are in the Whalley area for a 12-mile walk that will encompass the lovely

countryside around Wiswell and the more dramatic scenery at Sabden, directly below Pendle Hill.

Wednesday, April 20 is another historical walk, this time a nine-mile one in the Peak District to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the mass trespass to Kinder Scout, which ultimately led to the ‘right to roam’ legislation.

Finally, on Friday, April 22, we have a 10-mile walk from Prestwich to Bury, which will showcase the

local countryside parks and reservoirs.

We hope to see you on at least one of these walks.

These walks are free, but after three walks with us we ask you to join The Ramblers, at a cost of only £3.05 per month.
