Elaine takes over lead role with countryside group
TWENTY members of Stacksteads Countryside Park Group met for pie ‘n’ peas at the Rose n Bowl to hold their AGM and elect officers.
After four years in the role (as a result of
Covid) Chair Tom Daniels handed the reins to Elaine Potts and congratulated Irene Hughes on her appointment as Vice Chair.
Heather Massie retains the role of Treasurer and Amanda Davis as Secretary.
Tom Daniels gave members a resume of projects completed over recent months.
He also highlighted plans for the next year, including the popular Lantern Parade for which workshops will be held in Stacksteads during September and October, with the parade taking place on October 22.
The group now have a memorial forest at the Riverside Park.
They planted 520 trees from the Woodland
Trust and are encouraging residents to purchase a plaque to remember a friend or relative - or even a pet.
These are solid brass grave marker signs, five inches by two inches, up to 250 characters.
The cost for one plaque is £20.
This includes installation on the viewing platform at the wetland in the par and also a small contribution to the charity’s funds.
Darren Ashworth, who is leading the project, explained that his father died just before he planted the trees with his wife, Danielle, and daughter, Jessica, and it seemed a fitting tribute.
So many people commented on the plaque that the group decided to offer residents the opportunity to do the same.
If anyone would like to buy a memorial plaque, please contact any member of the group or message its Facebook page.
The next event will be the Scavenger Hunt scheduled to take place on Monday, May 2.
