ROSSENDALE RAMBLERS

-

MAY is here at last, and so are the bluebells, providing additional interest on our walks this week.

Our walk on Wednesday, April 27 was in Derbyshire again, when 18 ramblers had a lovely nine+ mile walk in the varied scenery near Etherow Country

Park.

Oddly, the highest point of the walk was Werneth Low with its cenotaph,

‘low’ meaning a tumulus – appropriate in this case.

Then on Sunday, May 1, we were very local on a 10-mile walk from the tucked-away village of Belthorn, near Blackburn.

Despite low cloud, the 12 ramblers enjoyed a varied walk, which included the village of Hoddlesden, with a great deal of industrial heritage.

Part of this is celebrated by 350 clay faces on the Millennium Green, remembering the workers at the local pipe works.

Coming up, on Sunday, May 8 we have a six-mile walk from Higham titled ‘a walk through time.’

Led by an ex-teacher, you can expect to learn a lot about the history of the area on this scenic walk.

The walk will finish by 1.30pm or so, giving plenty of time for shopping or family in the rest of the day, so we hope you will join us.

Finally, on Wednesday, May 11, we offer a 10-mile walk from Garstang, the world’s first Fairtrade town.

This should be a varied and interesting walk in this lovely part of Lancashire.

These walks are free, but

after three walks with us we ask you to join The Ramblers, at a cost of only £3.05 per month.
