A decade of helping vets
THIS week, we are looking at the The Veterans In Communities (VIC) Charity 10-year anniversary.
Based in Haslingden, the VIC is best known for supporting veterans from both the armed and blue light services in transitioning back into our communities.
People often do not appreciate that those who have served, particularly in the armed forces, find it extremely difficult to re-establish themselves back into the community and need help, advice and support. VIC provides that vital support.
Many of the staff and the invaluable volunteers are themselves veterans, and are in a unique position to understand and appreciate just what veterans are up against, and have developed initiatives to address those issues.
In addition to offering direct proactive support, VIC also provides a number of practical workshops and services aimed at creating an environment where veterans can socialise with fellow veterans and community members, learn new skills and creating products such as custom printed ceramics, greetings cards and artwork for sale to raise funds for the charity.
The VIC charity relies totally on grants and donations to function.
To recognise the fantastic work carried out by the charity, VIC is holding a Celebration dinner at Burnley FC on Friday 30th September, and are looking for businesses to sponsor a table at the event, raise much needed funds and enable veteran members who are so crucial to the work of the charity to attend.
Ex snooker World Champion Steve Davis OBE will be the guest speaker, and a number of awards will be presented to veterans who, in the opinion of their peers, have made an outstanding contribution to the work of VIC. All sponsors will be allocated tickets to attend and have the opportunity to experience the work of the charity.
