ROSSENDALE RAMBLERS

-

A VARIED week began on Wednesday, June 1 with a 10-mile walk in the Settle area, which never fails to delight.

The 14 ramblers enjoyed the views of the dramatic limestone scars and caves that characterise this area, and also learned about the hazardous production of lime for industry and agriculture.

Then on Thursday, June 2, a two-hour evening walk from Haslingden took 13 walkers through delightful wild flower meadows, beside the River Irwell, and along a disused railway line that is now a cycle track.

To add to the excitement, we saw a deer and a bright yellow bird that we thought was an escaped parakeet.

All of this and more was discussed at length in the pub afterwards.

Finally, on Jubilee Sunday, June 5, six ramblers had an unseasonably cool nine-mile walk from Sabden – below Pendle Hill. This was a varied walk, taking in agricultural land, woodland, and quite a few hills along the way.

Coming up, on Wednesday, June 15 we are in the Peak District again for a 10-mile walk that will take in Mam Tor, Lose Hill, Rushop Edge & Jacob’s Ladder.

On anything like a nice day, the views will be spectacular, so please consider joining us on this walk.

Then on Thursday, June 16 there is another evening pub walk, this time from Rawtenstall, so a lovely sociable evening is guaranteed. Finally, on Friday, June 17 you could join us for an 11-mile linear walk that will start with a bus journey from Edenfield to Belthorn. The return walk will take a circuitous and interesting route back to the starting point.

These walks are free, but after three walks with us we ask you to join The Ramblers, at a cost of only £3.05 per month.
