THE Whitaker is proud to present the next exhibition in its contemporary art programme, opening on June 16 and running until August 11.

Sixty Drawings + Ten explores, defines and celebrates drawing in its diverse forms.

Sixty artists, from a variety of different disciplines who exhibited in an exhibition in 2012 in Manchester, will present a new work, alongside ten new artists who have been invited to exhibit alongside the original 60 at the Rawtenstall gallery.

Creative director Gaynor Seville said they are delighted to be welcoming a “fantastic group of artists” for the “wideranging exhibition, exploring drawing in all its forms”.

“Not only is it an opportunity to bring this diverse group of artists together again, but also to welcome ten exciting new artists to The Whitaker,” she said.

“It’s also a moment to celebrate the breadth and depth of artistic talent we have in Lancashire and nationally.”

Visitors are invited to the exhibition on Thursday, June 16 from 7pm for the official opening.

As well as free wine and soft drinks, there will be an opportunity to hear from the artists about their work.

Artists Nicola Dale and Kevin Dalton Johnson will also treat visitors to live performances on the opening night.

The Whitaker will also continue its programme of professional development for artists and creative people alongside the exhibition.

On Thursday, June 23 at 7pm, Mark Devereux will run a session on applying for funds from Arts Council England.

This workshop will take an in-depth look at the application process for National Lottery Project Grants and Developing Your Creative Practice.

On Saturday, June 25, from 11am to 3pm, artist Carolyn Curtis Magri will host a drawing workshop, for artists and the creatively curious alike.

In this full day workshop, she will introduce drawing techniques to test drawing ideas, rather than produce a finished piece.

On Thursday, July 14 at 7pm, The Whitaker will welcome Art Historian Sara Riccardi (Art Across) to host Sixty Drawings + Ten Curated Conversation, which will feature a panel of artists from the exhibition.

The conversation will look at the work in the exhibition, as well as discussing drawing in its many forms, from a practical tool to political form of communication.
