A£50,000 donation has saved a Valley nursery from an uncertain future.

Bright Futures Early Learning nursery school, in Bacup, had been struggling financially following the Covid-19 pandemic.

The outstanding Ofstedrated establishment will now be keep its doors open and operate as normal following the cash boost from a Lancashire business.

Bosses at the nursery said the money will “change the lives of the children, families and [the] community”.

The donation came from MattressTek, a firm which designs, builds and ships machines for the mattress making industry from their site in Rossendale.

It will be put towards the play area and a new sensory room.

In a letter to the company based in Water, vhair of the nursery’s board Sharon Charlesworth expressed the “greatest gratitude on behalf of the Board, staff and children for the extremely kind donation of £50,000 to the nursery’s Charitable Trust.

“The difference it has made is tremendous and will change the lives of the children, families and community we serve.”

She continued: “It [the donation] has enabled us to develop the outside play area at our Bacup site and plans are in place to create a sensory room to support the children with the highest needs in our community.”

This has given them a safe space to learn, play and combines a range of stimuli to help the children to develop and engage their senses.

Through lights, colours, sounds, sensory soft play objects and aromas all used within a safe environment that allows the children to explore and interact without risk.”

A spokesperson for MattressTek said: “It’s been humbling to help the nursery with such muchneeded investment.

“The negative situation surrounding its future were just not an option for me, and others who use and need the service in the local area, so it’s great to hear about the benefit the nursery will get from the donation. I hope they can continue to support children and families who have really relied on their services already and will do in the future.

“As a proud Lancashire business, we are always keen to contribute to the investment of our roots, using local suppliers and materials, as well as serving our customers in the UK and across the globe.”
