Enfield stun leaders with Glebe Street win

-

TOP of the table Crompton were stunned at their Glebe Street home by Enfield who secured an impressive 129-run victory.

The visitors won the toss and elected to bat.

This turned out to be an excellent decision despite being 18-2 at one point. Zain Abbas secured 128 runs and Gregory Jones gained 52 runs while there were useful knocks from Yasir Ali (36) and Adam Bracewell (36). Enfield closed on 285-4.

The home side experienced a similarly difficult start to their innings, just as Enfield had earlier in the day, but recovered from 27-2 with Harry Dean hitting 51 runs and Hassan Fazal 37.

However, they were always behind the required run rate and closed on 156-7.

Nelson’s Usman Tariq secured an impressive 63 runs including seven fours to help his side secure victory over Accrington at the Property Shop Arena.

It was Nelson who won the toss and elected to bat first and they amassed 200 all out with Matthew

Pettinger (34 runs) and Khurram Nazir (30 runs) adding to Tariq’s knock.

Accrington struggled to get their reply off the ground and were 37-5 at one point. Kian Farnworth (47 runs) and Graeme Sneddon (37 runs) ensured they offered some resistance, but Tariq’s 4-26 over 15 overs, including three maidens, secured Nelson the win, Accrington all out for 175 in the 49th over.

Church and Oswaldtwistle’s Levi Wolfenden hit 77 runs against Rawtenstall and helped lift his side up to third position.

Visiting Rawtenstall won the toss and elected to bat first and after losing their top three cheaply, Faizan Riaz offered some hope with his 53 while Abbas Ahmad hit 27. Still, 172-8 off their 50 overs looked a little short, Wolfenden claiming 4-44 off his 12 overs, which included three maidens.

Wolfenden’s 77, after Craig Fergusson had struck 32, helped Church ease to victory, reaching the revised target of 162 in the 40th over.

In the game between bottom of the table Colne and second bottom Rishton at The Horsfield, the home side secured their first win of the campaign by eight wickets.

Rishton won the toss and elected to bat first and having put 236-4 on the board they must have fancied their chances of taking the points.

After a slow start saw them 26-2, Karl Andrews (97 runs) and Nasir Nawaz (106 runs) put Rishton in a strong position.

However, this was overshadowed by the brilliant display from Alex White (100) and Geeth Kumara (105) who helped the home side to secure a brilliant victory.

Bacup’s struggle for form continued at East Lancashire where and Roshen Silva and Philip Aspinall were the stand out players for the home side.

Bacup won the toss and elected to field first.

Silva secured 61 runs whilst Aspinall a useful 26 as the home side reached 186-8 off their 50 overs.

Bacup opener Simon Newbitt dug in and hit 52 off 77 balls, but Jack Bradford provided the only real support with 24 runs as the visitors were dismissed for 142 in the 40th over.

Travis Townsend was a crucial figure for

Littleborough as they defeated Great Harwood away from home.

It was the away side who won the toss and elected to bat first which saw Townsend strike 109 and Clinton Perren 88.

Matt Hernon added 31 as Littleborough closed on 286-5 off their 50 overs.

Great Harwood responded with Thikshila De Silva hitting 101, and there were useful contributions from Caleb

Greenhalgh (41) and Reece Willets (42).

However, with Lewis Willman claiming 3-36 and Townsend chipping in with a couple of wickets, Great Harwood finished short on 243-7.
