AMULTI awardwinning cake artist, who has starred in a hit Channel 4 baking series, has opened her first shop in her home town.

Molly Robbins, owner of online business Molly Makes Cakes, has opened the store in Bank Street, Rawtenstall.

On the first weekend of opening ‘Molly’s’ she sold 700 cupcakes.

Molly, daughter of actor and comedian Ted Robbins, said the community response “has been overwhelming”.

“I can’t believe how many people have come to support us,” she said.

“It’s taken a lot of hard work to get to this stage, but now I feel excited that I am part of an amazing community of small businesses in Rawtenstall.”

The 31-year-old has been a cake artist for 12

years, and moved from a unit selling online and doing bespoke orders to a shop front when the shop became available.

She describes her shop as a cross between a traditional cake shop, a colourful bright toy shop and a Japanese retro arcade.

The former Bacup & Rawtenstall Grammar School pupil uses the

skills she picked up in her fine art and special effects training in cake artistry.

The winner of the Global sugar artist of the year award for 2022 said: “I knew I would always do something creative, but fell into cakes completely by accident.

“Going on Channel 4’s Extreme Cake Makers was a brilliant experience.

“I made 89 cakes from a realistic hamburger cake to a life size elephant.

“The series was sold to Netflix, and has now been shown in 64 countries worldwide.

“It’s been amazing for my business, and I have been lucky enough to travel the world teaching cake artistry.”

She sells impressive bespoke cakes which start at £99 as well as gourmet cupcakes in up to 10 different flavours and seasonal cakes and treats.

The talented artisan sells her own range of cake decorating and baking equipment including a Creature Creator, which is a multi use 3D baking system that allows users to create any animal or character cake.

Molly also has a line of her own merchandise from retro pinnies and toys to jewellery.
