THIS week, we are looking at The Bacup Flowerpot Festival.

The festival is now in its fifth year and is run by the Bacup Pride group.

The basic idea behind the festival is for people to create sculptures of well known figures or unique creations from flowerpots.

Since it’s inception it has really grabbed the imagination of the Bacup community, and has become an annual event that both the community and visitors to the town really look forward to.

The Bacup Pride cabin on Bacup Market will be open Saturdays 10-12.30 until Saturday, July 16, providing a collection point where children and adults alike can go along, pick up a kit free of charge and be given guidance on ways in which to use the kits and other materials to create the figure of their choice.

The Bacup Flowerpot Festival is an initiative that truly engages the whole community, tapping into the community’s creative spirit.

Previous creations have included elephants, dogs, spiders, crocodiles, minions, Coconutters, and of course what Flowerpot Festival could not include Bill and Ben. What can you create?

Whether you make a sculpture to enter into the Festival or enjoy the dozens of entries displayed all over Bacup, it is always an amazing event to experience and a great opportunity to learn more about Bacup and its community.

All sculptures have to be registered with the organisers so that they can be included on the Flowerpot Sculpture Trail leaflet that will be produced with a map and site details of all the creations.

The event will run from Saturday, July 16 until mid September, with the final Sculptures being available for viewing from Saturday, August 6 through till mid September.
