Showers fail to deter walkers

-

DODGING the showers was a theme for nine ramblers on our nine-mile ‘stop and stare’ walk in the lovely Forest of Bowland area.

These walks are taken more slowly to allow a greater appreciation of the scenery and history of the walk route.

A focus this time was on Coronation Meadows, a project to counteract the loss of 97% of our meadows over the last 75 years.

On this walk the Coronation Meadow near Slaidburn was much admired for its profusion of wild flowers.

On the same day – Wednesday, June 29 – another party of 14 ramblers had a cloudy but dry walk from Briercliffe, this time dodging cows rather than showers.

This was quite a tough 10 miler that took in the summit of Boulsworth Hill at 1700 feet, plus parts of the Burnley Way and the Pennine Bridleway.

Finally, on Sunday, July 3, we were in Burnley again, where 11 walkers enjoyed a rural ramble taking in the sadly derelict Extwistle Hall and the lovely little chapel of Monks Hall Farm.

The walk finished through Thursden Valley, along The Bronte way and round Upper Coldwell Reservoir.

Coming up, on Sunday, July 10, we would love to see you on a scenic seven-mile walk from Alkincoats Park, Colne.

This walk will finish around 1.30pm, leaving plenty of time for

family matters afterwards.

Then on Wednesday, July 13, we have a 10 mile walk from Summerseat that will explore the local area. Hope to see you then!

Walks are free, but after three walks we ask you to join The Ramblers, at £3.05 per month. ●●FURTHER information about Rossendale Ramblers can be found on our website at www. rossendale-ramblers.co.uk, or you can contact us via secretary Glyn on 01706 561 042, or at glynbr45@ gmail.com.
