●●ROSSENDALE Council agrees to buy two properties to support homeless families (July 8):

Jean Howarth: It’s a start but needs many more properties.

Emma Farrow: Loads of empty homes they could use. Start by converting the Together housing building into rooms - the building hasn’t been used since lock down, it’s been on the rental market for months as offices and there is no demand for this in Rawtenstall at the moment as a lot of people work from home. Surly some common sense is needed?

Rick Woodall: They used to be called council houses and gave local government a constant source of income. Now we have £200,000 mortgages instead, for houses the government will confiscate if we need to pay for care in our old age

David Pawlaszek-Lawrie: Not sure of the news or the logic in the decision here? The council already have lots of houses, and have built lots more “affordable housing” sites. Why not simply support the existing property rental market, as was always the case?

Gary Cunliffe: So I take it all the AAAW properties are fully let out then?
