Dancers ready to perform timeless ballet classic
YOUNG dancers will be starring in a production of Swan
Lake.
Katie Howarth, 14, Freya Procter-Dalton, 12, and Amelia Tattersall, 12, from Rossendale are set to take the stage at the Victoria Theatre, Halifax from Friday, June 7 to Saturday, June 8.
Haslingden High School student from Rochdale, Ava White, 13, will also be joining them.
There will be three performances of award-winning English Youth Ballet’s (EYB) acclaimed ballet Swan Lake.
Katie, from Loveclough, has been doing ballet for 12 years and says she is looking forward to starring in her first big production.
She said: “I am sure it will be a challenge but I am looking forward to it.”
Freya, from Rawtenstall, said: “I am very excited and extremely looking forward to this amazing opportunity.
“I am incredibly passionate about dancing and I can’t wait to perform.”
Ava was mesmerised when she watched a production of Swan Lake in the theatre and now she will be taking to the stage to play the role of a graceful swan.
Ava, who has been dancing since she was two-years-old, said: “I want to be a ballet dancer.
“I am really excited because Swan Lake is my favourite show.
“I thought it was really cool in the theatre and I always wanted to be in it so I am very happy I am.”
The lavish production will star eight international principal dancers and showcase the talents of 80 young dancers from throughout Yorkshire.
EYB Principal Ann Wall will be starring as Odette, the White Swan in the
production. EYB’s emotionally charged production of Swan Lake is set in 1895 Imperial Russia and tells of love, rivalry, greed and murder.
The action takes place in the Mariinsky Theatre where the Mariinsky Ballet are preparing for a production of Swan Lake - and the sumptuous Royal Palace
of the Tsar. Two unlikely lovers meet Odette, a dancer with the Mariinsky Ballet and Prince Sergei, son to the Tsar.
The Tsar must ensure that Prince Sergei does not marry beneath his station.
Equally, the tyrannical Baron Von Rothbart would do anything to secure a royal patronage for his ballet company.
He would even manipulate his own daughter – Odile – to compete for the affections of the Prince.
Janet Lewis OBE, EYB Director, said: “English Youth Ballet’s aim is to provide performance experience to aspiring young dancers in beautiful venues close to where they live.
“The young dancers get to experience what life is like in a professional ballet company.
“They learn about developing their artistic and performance skills as well as improving their technique. I am always amazed at how quickly the young dancers progress and how positive they are when presented with new challenges.”
