UR BIENNIAL list of rugby’s heavyweights is back! RugbyWorld first set about ranking the most influential people in the oval-ball game back in 2014 and compiling these rankings is always an interesting – and challenging – task.
How do you measure influence? That is what makes this so tricky. There are the more obvious people of influence, those in positions of power who can effect change in the game. Then there are those less well-known figures who work behind the scenes to negotiate important deals and others who inspire through their actions and words.
To put together this comprehensive list, we garnered opinions from players, coaches, administrators, journalists and other important
Ofigures in the game from around the world. More than 100 names were thrown into the hat and there was plenty of debate when it came to cutting that down to 50, then ranking them in order. We believe our 2018 list of the 50 most influential people in rugby covers all spheres – playing, administration, coaching, commercial and so on – and recognises work being done across the globe, as well as the big issues right now.
