Rugby is more complex State of the nations Preferential treatment

Corstorphine team played against Penrith under the banner of Corwick RFC. Raging Bull donated a kit for the newly formed team to play in and the game was followed by a celebration dinner. The next day saw Keswick play Corstorphine for the Corwick Trophy.

The Corwick playing shirts were auctioned off, with the funds raised being donated to the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation. Along with a collection, the two clubs were delighted to hand over a cheque for £4,255. In respect to rugby taking longer to make decisions than football (TMO v VAR blog), it is understandable. You can’t compare the sports due to rugby’s different laws. It’s going to take longer in rugby to reach the correct decision.

Rugby is a contact sport in which player safety is paramount and to come to the correct decision based on contact point and force used is why different angles need to be looked at.

Glad to see football using technology finally and improvements will always be made in both sports. There’s a long way until the World Cup but New Zealand and Ireland are well in front. Wales have found some new talent, Scotland are looking on the up and you can’t write off Australia.

It’s great to see South Africa making a comeback. England have had a reality check but still have world-class players and France could be sleeping giants. But how poor were Argentina this summer? When New Zealand played France in June, the French had a player sin-binned for a fine tackle, then two All Blacks fractured Rémy Grosso’s skull and got nothing. There is no logical reason why they weren’t disciplined other than the fact they are All Blacks and were treated leniently.

Maybe refs feel an All Black shouldn’t be sanctioned because the crowd have come to see them, or maybe they get intimidated by the mythical All Blacks jersey.

Regardless, it’s clear they get preferential treatment. RW says: This was a clash of heads involving Grosso, Ofa Tu’ungafasi and Sam Cane. Luke Pearce could have carded both All Blacks but when a ball-carrier dips or is falling going into contact, as Grosso did, it becomes a grey area.
