Doddie the great
We often hear of the great achievements of both players and teams within the game, but very rarely do we hear of an ex-player exceeding his achievements on the field after he has retired. Especially if that player has more than 60 caps for his country, was a member of the victorious 1997 Lions squad and was also in the team that became the first Premiership champions.
Doddie Weir has shown not only amazing courage in facing motor neurone disease head on, in the manner he faced challenges as a player, but also great strength and commitment by setting up his foundation to help raise money to fight this disease and generally raising awareness.
We should all, where possible, support the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation, and salute not only a great player but also a great man. RW says: Well put. It’s why he made the top ten of our 50 Most Influential People in Rugby list last month.
