Ickenham Youth teams step into the limelight

Groundbreaking year for club celebrated at awards night

ICKENHAM Youth celebrated a fantastic season of achievements with their annual presentation evening.

The event, held at Hillingdon Sports and Leisure Centre in Uxbridge, was a chance for both individual players and teams to have the limelight and share their successes from the season just gone.

Ickenham now boasts 24 teams covering a variety of different age groups which involve 350 players across the local area.

It has been a groundbreaking year as for the first time the club has also welcomed girls into the mix with their first female team.

The new development has been hugely welcomed and the number of girls participating has led the club to add an extra day’s training to its schedule.

A special mention was also handed to Dave Gentry who took over the reins of the disbanding U16s when they had just four players on the books.

The side now enjoys a full compliment of players including Ben Chigara, who was voted the team’s most entertaining player in 2016.

The club also said farewell to 22-year-old Ross Deamer who stepped in to run his brother’s team three years ago and has enjoyed coaching the side but has now decided to step aside and let someone else take up the role.

Elsewhere, Brook House U13s are celebrating after winning the annual Maidenhead Youth Football tournament.

The Brook began this challenge on the back of three final losses this summer but made up for that disappointment by beating Chalfont Wasps 3-1 to clinch the trophy.

Six-goal Cori Page topped the scoring charts and was closely followed by Kelsy Luimbe with five goals throughout the tournament.

Jack Murphy, Lathees Yogeswaran, Edward Phiri, Mohammed Kanaan and Harry Vesey made up the rest of the excellent side.

Elsewhere, the club’s U14s are also looking to add in those positions for next season, with previous experience of youth football is preferred.
