Borough’s strikeforce on red hot scoring form
Harewood and Jordan firing Hillingdon up the table
IF Will Grigg is on fire – as the song popularised by Wigan Athletic fans goes – Andrew Harewood and Tashan Jordan must be close to incineration.
The Hillingdon Borough duo have bagged nine goals in seven games and seven in eight respectively to fire their side into the Spartan South Midlands Division One promotion picture.
They are among a clutch of players who played in the Southern League for AFC Hayes under Ian Crane, who is now the boss at Boro.
He said: “Andrew and Tash and doing very well, but so are all the lads at the moment. We will just give it our best shot and see where we end up. I think it will come down to four teams – I expect Southall, Baldock and Biggleswade to be up there, and hopefully we can challenge too.
“We want to get this club back to where it should be. When we came down from the Premier, we didn’t think Division One would be that strong, but most of the clubs in it could hold their own in the Premier. Harefield United are finding the same this season.
“I’m pleased with how things are going. It’s coming together this year, and having the owner, Dee Dhand, more on board has been a great help.”
Harewood hit a hat-trick in Saturday’s 6-1 win at Hadley Wood & Wingate, while Jordan also netted, along with Jamie Walters and Tom Williams. Rory Mullane saved a spot kick from former Hanwell Town striker Bill Healy.
What was even more pleasing for Boro was the side they beat had drafted in five first team players, including Healy from their parent side Ryman Premier outfit Wingate & Finchley, for the game.
The win lifted them to fifth in the table ahead of last night’s (Tuesday’s) game against Brimsdown. Harefield, meanwhile, went down 1-0 at Baldock and were due to play Harpenden Town last night.
Over in the Combined Counties Premier, AFC Hayes were unable to follow up their midweek 2-1 win at Bedfont Sports, going down 3-2 at Chertsey Town. They were due to host Balham in the League Cup last night.
In Southern One Central, Northwood will be kicking themselves after leading highflying Kempston Rovers 4-0 after 49 minutes, thanks to braces from Louis Stead and Ryan Debattista, but conceding four in the last 20 minutes to draw 4-4. Uxbridge, meanwhile, went down 2-0 at Ashford Town (Middx).
