Animal Rescue with Marion Garnett

SOUTHALL Cat Adoption Centre was so busy when I visited last week. They had just received several new admissions and the room was full of tiny feline faces peering up from their carrying crates with a questioning look of “What’s going to happen to me now?”

Eric and Teddy were in their pen studying the newcomers with interest. After being dumped at the Adoption Centre in August, they’ve seen many cats come and go but are still waiting for it to be their turn to be chosen for their forever home.

Eric and Teddy are two friendly, older boys who glide about in unison. Teddy is bigger and bolder than Eric but they are looking for a home together where someone will lay a place for both of them at their Christmas table.

Sometimes Teddy has a tendency to have a weepy eye, but if this happens after he has been homed, he can be treated for this under Southall’s RSPCA pension scheme. This means that, as long as he is brought back to the Southall RSPCA Adoption Centre for treatment for this problem, the new owner won’t have to pay.

If you think you can home these two handsome boys, you can meet them at the Cat Adoption Centre, Burket Close, Southall.

For those of you who visit the Centre to use their veterinary clinic, please note that, due to building work, there will be no clinics there in December.

If your pet needs treatment during this time, you may be eligible to have your pet treated at the RSPCA Putney Animal Hospital. Call 0300 123 0716 for details.

If you want more information about other places where you may be able to get reduced cost treatment for your pet, see my previous column in the Gazette (getwestlondon.co.uk Sept 16).

Don’t forget that during December you can buy your real Christmas tree from the car park of the Adoption Centre (address above). A donation from the sale of each tree goes to the Centre.

Finally, The Dogs Trust is holding its fabulous Carols in the Barn on Saturday December 17 (11.30am-3pm) at their rehoming centre on Harvil Road, Uxbridge. The tithe barn is stunning so this is likely to be a popular event. You may need to be there early to get in. There will be festive treats to buy as well as a photographer, raffle and carol singing.
