Golfing duo one step nearer to chasing the dream in pro-am tournament

-

TWO golfers from Northwood are a step closer to playing with a star of the European Tour after qualifying for the national final of Bridgestone’s Chase Your Dream Trophy, run with England Golf.

Diana Wallace, from Haste Hill GC, and Northwood GC’s Lilly Lian won the regional qualifier at Muswell Hill with nett scores of 75 and go forward to the final in August’s England Golf Week at Woodhall Spa, Lincolnshire.

The winner will be England’s female handicap golfer-of-theyear and the top nine players will play in the pro-am of the Bridgestone Challenge, the English leg of the Challenge Tour, at Luton Hoo on September 6. They will be joined by the top nine players from the men’s championship, making up six teams in the pro-am. The most successful will go on to the pro-am of the British Masters at Close House in Northumberland the same month, with a star of the European Tour. The Bridgestone Chase your Dream Trophy is an annual event open to members of England Golf’s 1,900 affiliated clubs.

Wallace, off a handicap of 17, said: “I’ve never played Muswell Hill but I played really well and everything went to plan.

“I had a bad phase of putting but in two weeks it has come back and I’m back to my best. I just focused on my natural game and I’m so proud to be through.”

Lian revealed: “A couple of years ago, a doctor told me I needed to breath more oxygen and spend time outdoors after a cancer scare. I took up golf with friends and couldn’t be happier. I’m self-taught from YouTube and even got my daughters into golf, with one winning novice girl golfer-of-the-year this month.”
