Students’ A game
TEENAGERS JUMP FOR JOY AT IMPRESSIVE EXAM RESULTS
IT WAS the day students were eagerly awaiting – or dreading. Across west London on Thursday August 17, A level pupils found out their results.
Uxbridge College
100% of students at Uxbridge College achieved passes in 10 out of 14 subjects, with 70% achieving A* to C grades.
Vice principal for standards and curriculum, Darrell DeSouza, commented: “It is excellent news to have such a great set of performances especially with higher level grades A*-C – congratulations to all our students.
“The college has been a long established and strong provider of A-levels and continues to offer an inclusive, nurturing and supportive environment that allows a very diverse range of students to develop their learning skills and thrive, where they might not otherwise have, be that at school or other college.
“It’s good to see that students actively select Uxbridge College as their first choice for these reasons.
“The indications are that the strong set of high grade results this year will be reflected in our ‘value added’ figures when these are published over the next few weeks.”
Sara Bashiri was their top performing student, achieving A* grades in biology, chemistry and maths.
She will be heading to Exeter University to study medicine.
Northwood Sixth Form
Students achieved a 100% pass rate in both A level and vocational courses.
Headteacher Mark Anderson said: “This has been a fantastic group of students who have worked hard and thoroughly deserve their success. They have been supported by our fantastic staff and their caring parents.I am immensely proud of them.
“It is great to see our students achieving results above the national average. It is especially pleasing to see 71% of our stu- dents gaining the highest grades in either A level or vocational courses.”
The majority of students who applied to university have been accepted onto their chosen courses.
One student, Ibrahim Fahmi is going on to study law at Nottingham University.
He said: “It’s always been my ambition to study this degree and I’d like to thank all my teachers for helping me to realise it!”
Queensmead School
Teachers at Queensmead are congratulating five boys who between them achieved 18 A*s.
Khalid Aleem, David Graovac and Raj Mehta have all been accepted into Cambridge University.
Headteacher Rhona Johnston said: “I am so very proud of the three boys.
“They have worked exceptionally hard throughout their school careers. They would not have achieved this without the support of their parents and teachers.”
Khalid Aleem achieved a total of 5 A* grades (maths, further maths, further additional maths, chemistry and physics).
Michael Trant achieved 2 A* grades and 1 A (maths, further maths and physics).
David Graovac achieved 4 A* grades and 1 A (maths, further maths, physics, chemistry and computing).
Raj Mehta achieved 4 A* grades (maths, further maths, physics and chemistry).
Howard Hall-Benn achieved 3 A* grades (maths, further maths and physics).
Harlington School
The school is celebrating another excellent
year for A Levels with a 10% increase in higher grades.
On top of this, more than 30% of its students are going on study at Russell Group universities.
Here are some words from a couple of top achievers.
Alex Da Camera, who achieved an A*, B and C grade, said: “I’m over the moon to have been accepted into Exeter University to study geography. I left Harlington in year 12 to study elsewhere and this turned out to be a terrible decision.
“I missed the support of the staff and the community of the school. I returned in year 13 to study for my A levels and it was like coming home.
“It was the best decision I could have made and helped me achieve my goal of university that was previously unreachable. My ultimate goal is to become a pilot. I’d like to thank Harlington staff for their dedication to my education.”
Keanna Kempisty, who achieved three A grades, said: “I’m so excited to be going to study Economics at Surrey University. Harlington staff have been so supportive in helping me achieve this goal despite setbacks. I’m looking forward to the next chapter in my life.”
Charles Jefferies, assistant headteacher, sixth form, said: “Our students have coped commendably well with the national changes to A Levels, and we were delighted to see the smiles and celebrations this morning!”
Headteacher Liz Horrigan added: “We are once again delighted and extremely proud of our students. It has been a real pleasure to support them on their educational journeys and we wish all of them the very best for their futures.”
Uxbridge High School
100% of students achieved exam success with Spanish being one of the top performing subjects as all students achieved grades A*- B.
Head of sixth form Maggie Barber said: “Well done to all sixth form students at Uxbridge High School, whose hard work has paid off and have achieved fantastic results.
“We are incredibly proud and delighted to see them progress as adults into university, apprenticeships or the world of work.”
Ella Ebanks, Kimran Kalal and Arjola Idrizi are some of the high flying students, all achieving grades of A*, A and B.
All vocational students passed their courses with 93% of students achieving D* or DD* in ICT and 79%.
Rhys Pearce, Laura Davey and Jagrag Pahal all achieved the highest grade of DD * in business studies and Aisha McPherson, Sanah Sacranie and Sanije Sylejmani secured DD * in performing arts.
Northwood College for Girls
The college is celebrating a 100% pass rate this year.
Head mistress Jacqualyn Pain said: “With over 30% of our girls achieving at least two A* - A grades, our excellent results are a true testament to the exceptionally high standard of a Northwood College for Girls education and the effectiveness of our forward-thinking teaching techniques and approach.
“Our girls have worked so very hard and I am proud of each and every one of them.
“I am equally proud and thankful for the dedication and commitment that is demonstrated year after year by our exceptional teachers.”
The mathematics department excelled with 100% of the further mathematics exam results receiving grade A*. There was a number of success stories: Nana Owusu-Addo, 18 gained three A*s and plans to head to the University of Oxford to read chemistry, she said: “I am absolutely delighted with my results and so very relieved and grateful to Northwood College”
Izzy Seale, 18, also achieved three A*s and is planning to study a maths degree.
“I am so happy, I cannot believe it is over and I am so grateful to my school for my results,” she commented.
Head girl Mala Pandit, 18, plans to head to Durham University after achieving two A*s and one A, she said: “I am so happy and relieved!”
Bishopshalt School
There was plenty to smile about at Bishopshalt School hall last Thursday morning especially if your name is Luke Soneji.
The super star student achieved phenomenal results with four A* grades in chemistry, physics, maths and further maths.
There were also seven other students who opened their envelopes to see they had gained three A* to A grades.
Overall results improved from last year, the school said.
Phil Harris, director of sixth form, congratulated all of the students and teachers at the school on their hard work.
He said: “These results are a credit to the hard work and application of the students and their teachers alike.
We are very pleased that our students have achieved so well at Bishopshalt.
“We aim to help as many students as possible to go on to university and it is very satisfying for us when all of the effort that is put in is rewarded.
“We are delighted to have helped so many students to achieve the excellent results that they have – our congratulations go to them all.”
