THE mutilated body of a black and white cat found in Hayes is believed to be another victim of the so-called UK Cat Killer.

The female feline was found with injuries consistent with other suspected victims of the serial killer, believed to be responsible for the deaths of around 300 cats over the last two years.

The brutal killings include the cats’ heads and tails being chopped off in a consistent way, with the majority of killings focused within Greater London, including a fivemonth-old kitten, Storm from Staines.

The most recent victim was found in Blyth Road, near the construction project for the The Old Vinyl Factory redevelopment, on Sunday October 8.

The cat was not chipped and therefore remains unidentified and the owners have not been notified.

Concerned residents and a local volunteer guarded the cat’s body while South Norwood Animal Rescue and Liberty (SNARL) helped deal with the situation.

The charity first became aware of the serial cat killer’s operations in Croydon around two years ago and has been working on the cases since then.

Their campaigning resulted in Metropolitan Police launching Operation Takahe specifically aimed at dealing with the UK Cat Killer.

Tony Jenkins of SNARL told the Gazette they believe the killer is also responsible for deaths of more than 80 foxes.

“Reports of very similar cat killings have come from Birmingham, Liverpool, The Wirral, Northampton, Milton Keynes and many others but he mainly targets London and Surrey,” he said.

“We have also had reports of the similar mutilations of half a dozen rabbits.”

SNARL is asking for anyone whose cat is missing or anyone who comes across a mutilated cat’s body to call them on 07961 030 064.
