DESIGN BRINGS MACK TO THE FUTURE

-

Charles Rennie Mackintosh was Scotland’s greatest architect and designer and when he died, aged 60 in 1928, he left behind a reputation that now spans the world.

Sadly his unique design style struggled to find favour during much of his life, and it has been more recently that enthusiasm for his designs has reached a crescendo, helped ironically by the school in Glasgow established in his name being severely damaged by fire in 2014.

Although he struggled to win commissions to built houses during his lifetime, several properties have since been constructed that are true to Mackintosh’s original vision. A number of his unbuilt plans have more recently been completed. They includes The House for An Art Lover in Bellahouston Park, Glasgow designed in 1901 but not built until 1996, and The Artist’s Cottage and Studio, completed outside Inverness in 1992. The latter of these is now for sale. The Artist’s Cottage includes six bedrooms, two reception rooms, a kitchen, two utility rooms, a roof terrace and a ‘secret’ courtyard garden.

The property is set in a peaceful patch of wooded highland countryside near the village of Farr where there’s a store and a primary school. Inverness is 12 miles away.

The property is for sale at £495,000. For more information contact Ballantynes on 0131 459 2222.
