‘English original’ Robb stars at folk club

-

FABULOUSLY observant songwriter Robb Johnson comes to Uxbridge Folk Club tomorrow (Thursday).

A lyrical master of political satire and a strong outspoken opponent of hypocrisy, bigotry and racism, Robb has been a prominent voice on the folk scene for over 30 years now and his diligence, wit and artfulness at displaying this social conscience are showing no sign of waning.

Robb can boast a 30 album back catalogue and has been hailed by Radio 2’s folk legend Mike Harding as “the real deal” and “an English original” by Robin Denselow from The Guardian. You can find Uxbridge Folk Club at the Royal Naval Association, 388a Long Lane, Hillingdon, behind the shops on Hillingdon Circus.

Entry is £12 on the door, £10 for members and just £4 for students. Doors open at 7.30pm and the music starts at 8pm.

We say a sad goodbye this weekend to The Crown and Treaty in Oxford Road, Uxbridge – a weekly hotbed for live and original musical talent since at least 2005 where close to 100 bands and solo performers have displayed and honed their craft.

What happens next nobody knows, but many fear another avenue for the alternative and free spirited to express themselves may have closed for good.

On Friday, you can witness what might be the last live and original band to perform within the historic walls. Faers, whose singer Steven has helped build upon the local live scene, will play an emotion farewell.

It’s free entry before 10pm and just £5 after.

DJ Az, with his ‘rock and cheese’ set, will lay The Treaty, as we know it, to rest on Sunday April 29 at around 3am. Come and say your goodbyes.
