STONES SIGN POKU FROM NON-LEAGUE RIVALS

-

WEALDSTONE have announced the signing of midfielder Godfrey Poku from National League South rivals Oxford City.

Poku has a wealth of non-league experience and made 79 league appearances for Oxford City in two seasons, as well as being an influential member of their giant-killing FA Cup side that beat Colchester United last year.

He has played in the Football League with Mansfield Town and has also represented Luton Town, Southport, St Albans City, Alfreton Town, AFC Telford United, Woking and Havant & Waterlooville. Meanwhile, leaving the Stones is defender Ian Gayle, who joined from Welling United in January and made 12 appearances, scoring once.

Wealdstone have had a very active transfer market so far this summer, with Poku becoming manager Bobby Wilkinson’s 13th summer signing and Gayle becoming the 17th player to depart.

Wealdstone have announced a further pre-season friendly to add to their warm-up schedule for the 2018/19 National League South campaign. Bromley will travel to Grosvenor Vale on Saturday July 28 at 3pm.

National League side Bromley will provide a strong test for the new-look Stones, having had an excellent campaign in the higher division last term and reaching the final of the FA Trophy, narrowly missing out on penalties to Brackley Town at Wembley Stadium.

This match will be combined with a special ‘meet the players day’ at the Vale. Bobby Wilkinson and his management team are inviting everyone to visit the club to watch an open training session between 12.30 and 2pm and then meet all the players before and after the match.
