A LITTLE PALACE YOU CAN RENT FROM THE QUEEN
In the run-up to Prince Harry and Meghan’s wedding the UK’s leading pollster YouGov revealed that 69% of us identify as monarchists, 21% would prefer not to have the royals and that remainder hadn’t made up their minds.
But the 100,000 spectators in Windsor, and the millions who watched the ceremony on TV, voted with their feet and remote controls as the pomp and pageantry came to a crescendo.
And those keen to keep their royal wedding jamboree going now have the perfect opportunity.
A holiday home is currently available to rent near Scarborough that belongs to Meghan’s new grandmotherin-law, Her Majesty The Queen. But the Defender of the Faith won’t be doing the checking in and out. The property belongs to the Duchy of Lancaster, which since 1399, has been the private estate of every British sovereign and was set up to provide successive monarchs with an income.
Scalby Lodge overlooks both the surrounding countryside and nearby cliffs and is one of 15 cottages within a holiday ‘village’ managed by the Duchy.
There’s plenty to do in the local area including miles of bracing coastal scenery to yomp along as well as a local pub and the nearby Scarborough Sea Life Sanctuary.
But should Yorkshire’s famously soggy coastal weather descend on the area then the village includes a games room with a snooker table.
The self-catered and pet-friendly royal property sleeps four and is available to rent for £959 a week.
