FANCY LIVING IN SHERLOCK’S HOME?
Location is everything for fans of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s detective Sherlock Holmes, and the most important is 221B Baker Street.
In the books it’s his central London apartment while in real life it’s a museum dedicated to the world’s most famous sleuth.
And Sherlock Holmes’ latest TV incarnation starring Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock, inset below, and Martin Freeman as his sidekick Dr Watson also features this famous address.
But most of this criticallyacclaimed show was filmed in Wales both on location and at production facilities in Cardiff, rather than London.
Several properties in and around the Welsh capital were used, including this pretty rural property, which features in the episode His Last Vow.
Both Cumberbatch and Freeman are filmed strolling around the gardens of the house, which doubles as the home of Sherlock’s parents, played by Cumberbatch’s real parents, actors Wanda Ventham and Timothy Carlton.
Other scenes filmed at the historic home include those featuring Sherlock’s brother Mycroft, played by series co-writer Mark Gatiss, John Watson’s wife Mary (Amanda Abbington) and drugs specialist Bill Wiggins (Tom Brooke).
Following its starring role in the episode, Trewallter Fawr is on the market for £950,000.
It’s a traditional Welsh longhouse dating back to the early 17th century and has five bedrooms, two bathrooms and two reception rooms. Other features of the Grade II* listed property include approximately 1.5 acres of land and a two-storey coach house and stables.
