Woman punched in theNews face on her way to work

MAN LAUNCHED UNPROVOKED ATTACK IN QUIET UXBRIDGE STREET

-

A WOMAN in West London is recovering at home after she was brutally attacked while walking to work in Hillingdon.

The victim, who is in her 30s, was walking along Morello Avenue at 7.45am on Monday August 5 when she was approached by a man she did not know.

She was punched in the face and her attacker then fled the scene.

Metropolitan Police have launched an investigation into the incident, which is reportedly the second of its kind to have happened this year.

The woman’s brother, who did not wish to be named due to fear of further attacks, told MyLondon: “She was walking to work down to West Drayton Road and there was a man – an average-looking guy – walking towards her.

“He was wearing a hi-vis yellow jacket and out of nowhere absolutely smashed her in the face.

“She staggered around and there was blood all over the road.

“She managed to stumble home, about 50 yards up the road.”

The victim was taken to hospital and has since had stitches in her lips and mouth.

“It was unprovoked and no contact was made between them before the attack,” her brother added.

“She glanced up and his fist was coming towards her face.”

The woman is “still coming to terms” with the incident and is “not in a good place at the moment”.

It is believed it is the second time a woman has been the victim of an unprovoked assault in Morello Avenue over the past six months.

“My mum is 74 years old and walks up and down that road most mornings,” the woman’s brother said.

“It could happen to anyone. “It’s too much of a coincidence to have happened again. It’s the same place at roughly the same time.

“Hillingdon is not known for crime and it’s normally quite quiet.

“Not much goes on down there and for a woman to be punched in the face is disgusting.”

The man who attacked the woman on Monday is described as being between 5ft 6 and 5ft 9, of average build and with brown, spiky hair and stubble. Scotland Yard has confirmed they are investigating the attack and are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

A spokesman for the force said: “Police in Hillingdon are investigating an allegation of assault against a woman in Morello Avenue, Hillingdon on Monday at around 7.48am.

“The victim, a woman in her mid30s, was approached by a man and assaulted.

“Enquiries continue.” Anyone with information regarding the attack is asked to call police on 101, quoting CAD 1538/6August. Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
