Ten ideas for half term fun

THERE’S A HOST OF ACTIVITY FOR KIDS IN HILLINGDON

With the kids establishe­d back at school and well into the Autumn term, you might have a nagging doubt at the back of your mind as to what you’re going to do with them over the Autumn half term.

But don’t despair, there’s plenty going on in London and the West London Borough of Hillingdon is no exception

We’ve put together a quick list of free events in the borough which are run in partnershi­p with Hillingdon Council from Monday, October 21 to Friday, October 25 and surroundin­g dates.

Please check with the venues before attending any events to confirm details.

Explore the bunker (all ages)

Discover the goings-on of Operation Overlord 75 years after it happened at Hillingdon’s Battle of Britain Bunker.

The display will shed light on the significan­t role of the Bunker during D-Day on

June 6,1944, in planning and directing tactical air operations.

There are also a number of activities at the centre, including a discovery trail, arts and crafts, and special bunker tours designed for family visitors.

The exhibition opens at 10am daily with activities from 11am and closes at 4.30pm, and it’s free for under-18s and Hillingdon­First cardholder­s.

Let it Go – Frozen Workshop (for five to 10 years)

Children can take part in a fun musical workshop singing and celebratin­g the songs from the hit Disney Film.

The workshop runs in the Compass Studio from 11am-12pm on Sunday, October 20

Frozen film showing (children)

You’ll be able to dress up as your favourite Frozen character and sing along to a full screening of Disney’s film Frozen with lyrics on screen to help you sing along with Anna and Elsa.

It’s only one month to go until the sequel is released so brush up on all the songs from the first fantastic film.

The showing takes place on Sunday October 20 at the Compass Theatre at 1pm. You can book online at Compass Theatre.

Stories, song and craft

Head along to Oak Farm Library on Wednesdays for an exciting story, traditiona­l songs, colouring and craft.

It’s free, but booking is required, so call ahead on 01895 556242.

The event is held every Wednesday from 10.15-11am at Oak Farm Library.

All about fairies (all ages)

Folklore author Mark Norman will answer such important questions as ‘If you’re nice to the little people, how will they repay you?’ ‘If they try to coax you into their parties, how do you avoid getting lost?’ And ‘do people still see them today?’

Folklore: Fairies, will be held on Tuesday, October 29 from 4pm at West Drayton Library.

It’s free to attend but you can book at culturebit­e@hillingdon.gov. uk.

Bookstart Rhymetime

Monday, October 21 11am-2pm. Oak Farm Library. A chance to meet and share tactile stories and rhymes for under-twos in a relaxed and friendly environmen­t.
