Man who stabbed victim repeatedly jailed for 20 years

THUG HAD BEEN TOLD TO LEAVE ROOM HE WAS RENTING WHEN HE SUDDENLY ‘TURNED VIOLENT’

-

A THUG who stabbed a Hounslow man repeatedly after being asked to move out of the room he was renting has been jailed.

Paul Cane was living in a spare room at an address in Hounslow when he asked to leave by the occupier and his two friends on April 1 earlier this year.

The 47-year-old, of no fixed abode, initially agreed and was being led down the stairs by the two friends when he suddenly “turned violent” and started attacking the man directly behind him.

He produced a knife and started stabbing the victim over the shoulder, causing significant injuries to his back, neck and arm.

Cane also swung the blade at the occupant, causing several injuries, while the main victim sustained a severe collapsed lung.

Cane attempted to evade police but was tracked down and arrested before being charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent and occasioning actual bodily harm.

A jury at Kingston Crown Court found Cane guilty of both offences and he was jailed for 20 years on Thursday October 3.

Trainee Detective Constable Hugo Denton, of the Metropolitan Police, said: “This was an extremely violent attack which has left the victim with injuries that will affect him for many year to come.

“I hope this sentence goes some way to repairing the trauma that has been caused so that they can start to move on with their lives.”

Detective Inspector Mick Redmond added: “Knife-enabled crime is a serious concern to officers. This case shows how working together with the public we are able to save lives and bring offenders to justice.

“It was through the hard work and dedication of officers that we were able to secure the conviction of Cane for grievous bodily harm with intent.

“The sentencing shows how serious the court have taken this matter. This should be seen as a warning to those involved in knife crime. If you use a knife to cause harm to others and you are convicted then a lengthy sentence is a real possibility.”
