On board for bikes

BIKEWISE will maintain and distribute the fleet of bicycles at the Brunel University London campus and for people in the wider community.

The scheme, which was launched in March, has 50 bikes that will be serviced by Bikewise’s experienced team.

Nextbike UK managing director Krysia Solheim said: “The new local service provider partnership was great for the future of cycling in the area.

“Local service providers allow Nextbike to connect with the community by offering a more hands-on service and, with their help, we are able to keep in close contact with the world around our schemes,” she said.

“We’re looking forward to working with the Bikewise team and to providing Brunel University and the surrounding area with more connected and sustainable travel.

“We would like to take this opportunity to thank our previous service partner, Recycle-a-Bike, for setting up and supporting the scheme during its first months of operation.”

Ranjeet Rathore, president of the Union of Brunel Students, said: “Santander Bicycles have enhanced accessibility in and around Brunel University by providing a fitter medium of transport. Installing multiple docking stations within the campus has proved to be more economical and convenient. This is a great initiative and I would definitely recommend it to all the freshers as it is cheaper, healthier and greener.”

Simon Poulter, relationship manager at Santander Universities UK, said: “The scheme has proven incredibly popular with students and the wider community with more than 18,000 hires to date.”

Nextbikes are available 24 hours a day. Users can register and hire bikes in just a couple of minutes. Fees are from 16p per day.
