Art house that tells many tales

YOU’D probably need a double or triple take if you were walking down a quiet West London street and stumbled across Carrie Reichardt’s house.

The Chiswick based artist, with the help of a few friends, has covered the outside of her house, top to bottom, with a massive ornate mosaic.

You can find the amazing Mosaic House on Fairlawn Grove, Chiswick, and the back can be seen from nearby Cunnington Street.

Outside the front of the colourful building you can see The Tiki Love Truck, one of Reichardt’s more famous pieces. Dedicated to the memory of a death-row inmate, it has been part of various parades across the UK.

The project began in the 1990s and has been slowly added to until finally being finished in 2017.

Each part tells a story, whether it’s a memorial to a friend, political message or just some good looking art.

Reichardt has campaigned all her life against injustice in the prison system in the UK and the US.

The mosaic above one of the windows at the front of the house is dedicated to Herman Wallace, one of the Angola 3, who served more than 40 years in solitary confinement.

This was described as the longest period of solitary confinement in American prison history.

He was released on October 1, 2013 on compassionate grounds and died just three days later.

MyLondon headed to the iconic house to capture it in all its glory and tell the stories behind some of the artworks hidden on its walls.
