Townson praises Ealing’s forwards

-

EALING Trailfinders forwards coach Glen Townson heaped praise on the players after Saturday’s impressive 38-5 win over Bedford Blues.

The Trailfinders scored six tries despite the stormy conditions and Townson was proud of the effort.

“We’re very pleased with that. The wind was unbelievably tough, but we stepped up and delivered. It was testing throughout but I thought we were tactically astute and played in the right areas,” Townson said. “The scrum was fantastic and it allowed us to control the second half by grinding them down.

“We’ll take confidence from that and head in to the [Championship Cup] quarter final [against Jersey] next week very excited. You don’t need any more motivation for games like that, but Jersey will be firing and it should be a great occasion.”

Second-rower James Cannon said the win over Bedford showed the Trailfinders are able to perform in a variety of ways. Cannon received the Soane’s Kitchen man of the match award after an impressive display in terrible weather for the whole 80 minutes.

“That was really tough and we’re very happy to get the win. The conditions were atrocious but the game management was spot on,” Cannon said.

“The forwards worked really hard to get us some front foot ball and in particular the front row were outstanding. In the last few weeks we’ve had to win in a variety of different ways and it puts us in good stead moving forward.

“We’re back to knockout rugby next week which is a huge game for us. It’s a one-off match for a place in the semifinal and we can’t wait for it.”
