Burglary hot spots

NEARLY 900 homes and businesses in Hounslow have been targeted by burglars so far this year, latest statistics show.

The figures, published by the Metropolitan Police, show there were 879 burglaries in the West London borough between January and June this year (data for July is not yet available).

To compare, in the same time frame 960 burglaries occurred in Hillingdon, 704 in Harrow and 1,073 in Ealing. In London, there have been more than 30,000 burglaries so far this year.

Hounslow’s 879 break-ins are made up of 646 residential and 233 business and community.

That means burglars target homes and businesses in Hounslow on average 146 times every month. The list below to see how many burglaries occurred in the ward where you live or work.

Coming in at joint third on the list are Chiswick Homefields, Syon and Turnham Green.

Police have been called to 55 burglaries in each of the above wards so far this year.

In Chiswick Homefields, there were more residential burglaries (34) than business and community burglaries (21), while in Syon more burglaries happened in January (18) than in any other month. In Turnham Green there were 14 burglaries in March and 10 in May, which is a little surprising considering we were in lockdown during those months.

Most of the burglaries (68) reported in Chiswick Riverside have been residential.

There were 15 break-ins in January, and 14 in May and June.

There was a slight drop in burglaries in March and April, most probably due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The area in Hounslow where the most burglaries occurred was Brentford. For every 100,000 people, that equates to 5.51 break-ins.

There were more burglaries in March (19) than in any other months, while April (17) and May 18) were not too far behind.
