‘Predictable’ Rangers make early exit from Carabao Cup

-

QUEENS Park Rangers failed to turn their possession into goals as they lost 3-2 to Plymouth Argyle in the Carabao Cup.

Manager Mark Warburton bemoaned a lack of ruthlessness at both ends of the pitch as QPR were knocked out of the Carabao Cup.

Despite taking the lead in the second minute at Home Park through Ryan Manning, the Green Army went ahead with goals from Joe Edwards and Danny Mayor.

Ossie Kakay levelled for Rangers, but Frank Nouble netted the winner for the hosts.

Warburton believes his side need to learn how to put games to bed.

He said: “We scored the early goal and our shape was good right at the start, but then we give a soft goal away. You can’t do that.

“We looked a bit predictable in the first half – we got good possession, but didn’t maximise it and didn’t look threatening enough.

“In the second-half from kick off we looked dangerous.

“We had two, three, four chances and I thought their keeper was very, very good.

“Joe Lumley hasn’t had a save to make, but he has had to pick the ball out of the net three times. When we give away soft possession, don’t track a runner or don’t get out and close the ball down, it’s damaging to us. We have to be more ruthless in both boxes.

“We just said to the team about last season – how many games did we have so many chances? “That was it again today. “Put the ball in the back of the net, make it 2-1 or 3-1 and the game is dead and buried, but we didn’t do that.

“We did more than enough to win the game but we have to be ruthless.”
