Limited edition is up on eBay
LIMITED edition Oyster cards made specially for the launch of the new Elizabeth line railway are being sold online on eBay for as much as £300, with opportunist traders cashing in on the collectible nature of the special cards.
The Oyster cards, which feature the new unique seat moquette pattern for the Elizabeth line, were made available by TfL at the launch of the new line on Tuesday May 24, attended by transport enthusiasts and commuters alike.
Around 1.2million of the limited edition pay-as-you-go Oyster cards were made for the big day.
The cards have now been seen for sale on eBay with rail loving collectors snapping up their own card for prices ranging from just over £10 to as high as £300.
The cards’ only difference to a normal Oyster is cosmetic, with the limited edition versions functioning the same as any other pay-as-you-go Oyster card.
According to the Mail, around 60 of these Oyster cards have been spotted listed for sale on the auction website eBay, with those not lucky enough to grab one at a station desperate to get one for safekeeping.
One seller has even made £344.75 by selling cards at £13.79 each, plus £1.99 for postage. And others are selling the cards in ‘multipacks’ of five at a time.
Some of the cards being sold have over 10 bids and over 20 watchers, giving some idea of just how in demand these limited edition collectibles are at the moment. The Oyster cards are free to pick up in stations, although you need to put down a £5 deposit when getting one, which gets refunded at the end of a year if you still have it a year later.
