‘I know we still have a chance to keep hold of Eriksen’

BEES BOSS SAYS HE HAS TRANSFER AGREEMENT WITH DANE

-

BRENTFORD manager Thomas Frank has revealed that he has a transfer agreement with Christian Eriksen as the attacking midfielder makes a decision over his future plans.

Linking up with the Bees back in January after returning to the game following the cardiac arrest he suffered at Euro 2020 while playing for Denmark, the 30-year-old’s shortterm contract in west London expires at the end of this month.

Excelling for Frank’s side as he helped them finish the 2021/22 Premier League season strongly by contributing with one goal and four assists in 11 games, the Dane has been linked with a number of clubs this summer, including Tottenham.

Tipped to return to N17 on a free transfer following his long spell at the club and working under Antonio Conte at Inter Milan previously, football.london understands that Spurs have not followed up their interest yet over a free transfer for their former man.

Brentford and Manchester United have also been mentioned in regards to moves for Eriksen this summer, but those within Tottenham are now suddenly distancing themselves from any talk of discussions involving the attacking midfielder.

Football.london understands that Spurs were in contact with the player’s camp about a potential return just a couple of weeks ago but have not followed that up since, with United, Everton, Newcastle, Leicester, West Ham and Brentford also having made contact about the midfielder, as well as Ajax and one unnamed La Liga side.

Speaking in an interview with Spanish publication AS, Brentford manager Frank opened up on coaching Eriksen as a youngster and what exactly the future holds for the player. While the Bees will be hopeful of re-signing him on a long-term contract, Frank has confirmed that Eriksen has a transfer agreement with him and the midfielder will call and notify him of his future plans once he’s made a final decision.

“I coached Eriksen in the youth ranks in Denmark. In October, my son called me: ‘Dad, why don’t you contact Christian? He has to play football again.’ I called Eriksen in December and asked him if he would consider playing football again at Brentford and he replied: ‘Funny thing is I thought of you too’,” he said, as reported by Sport Witness.

“I never had any doubts that he would come back to a good level and now I hope we can retain him. I do not know [Eriksen to Brentford]. I know we still have a chance and I hope he will make a decision in two weeks. The agreement is that he will call me and tell me what he wants to do. He hasn’t decided yet.”
