THREE vehicles were seized and five warnings issued as police cracked down on off-road bikes in Runcorn as part of Operation Scrambler.

Chief Inspector Deborah Hooper, of Runcorn Local Policing Unit (LPU), said officers visited 10 addresses in connection with suspected anti-social riding.

The operation was carried out in co-operation with housing associations.

She said the visits were based on police intelligence and information from the public.

Five section 59 warning notices were served which allow officers to seize vehicles if they are used in a manner which causes alarm, distress or annoyance.

Ch Insp Hooper added that a male was arrested in possession of a stolen bike and two motorbikes and a quad bike were seized.

The housing groups also warned some residents for breaching their tenancy agreements.

Ch Insp Hooper urged anyone with problems to contact the police.

She thanked those who had already been in touch with information, saying it enabled officers and other organisations to deal with problems ‘in a robust way’.

She said: “This is a great example of police and other agencies working well together to tackle anti-social activities.

“It sends a positive mes- sage to the Runcorn community highlighting that the issues of concern that they have raised to us have been acted upon.”

And she added: “Runcorn LPU is working extremely hard to crack down on nuisance minimotos and off-road motorbikes. The intelligence that we have received so far from local people has helped us to build up a bigger picture of what is happening and who is responsible.

“Thank you to members of the public for actively supporting our operation.

“We understand the frustration that these mini-motos and off-road bikes cause within our community and we will be continuing our efforts to crack down on this antisocial behaviour.”
