RISK OF LEAVING EUROPE

- Damian Waters CBI North West director T Miller Runcorn

THE UK’s membership of the European Union has been of enormous benefit to the North West for over 40 years.

Some of the key sectors that lie at the heart of communities across the region, from manufacturing to retail, rely on our membership of the Single Market.

Virtually every economist agrees that leaving the EU would likely cause an economic shock, damaging the North West’s prospects.

We’d not only put a dent in what we have now, we’d also miss out on thousands of jobs in the near future, as a result of losing access to the Single Market, pulling the rug from under our local economy.

This is why the majority of businesses want the UK to remain inside the EU, to best drive growth, support and create jobs, and increase prosperity for our region. from putting a ceiling on bonuses bankers could be awarded?

Immigration. At the moment we are in the EU and the EU has ordered the UK to take in more refugees. To me, that doesn’t sound like protecting our borders; far from it. We cannot deport immigrants who commit serious crimes, nor can we deport about 99% of illegal immigrants.

That is why we have huge holding centres full of them, everyone of them has applied to live here, and I think we all know the result of those applications.

There was one part of your letter I thought was very funny – standing up to Putin and bullying from China. Not even the USA can stand up to them. The Chinese have been allowed to shut down our steel industry with 100% Government backing. This Government is paying the Chinese to build and run nuclear power stations. I don’t hear any complaints from your party about this.

Exports. Do you know what our biggest export to the EU is? It’s fresh air, that’s right, fresh air. EU lorries and containers come here full and many of them return full of fresh air, or in layman’s terms, empty.

We buy more off the EU than the EU buys off us. We do more trade with the rest of the world than we do with the extremely corrupt EU.

The EU have given grants to the likes of Ford, Cadbury, Twinings, Jaguar/Landrover, and to over 40 other companies to move manufacturing out of the UK to other EU countries.

Yes let’s stay in the EU and watch everything that makes a profit go to other EU countries.
