FIREFIGHTERS are issuing safety advice to Halton residents during Euro 2016.

Cheshire Fire And Rescue Service (CFRS) is urging fans to follow its advice if watching games either at home or elsewhere.

CFRS’s head of prevention and protection, Nick Evans, said: “The Euro 2016 tournament is an exciting time for all football fans, and we want this year’s tournament to be one to remember for all the right reasons, so we’re urging residents to play it safe and stay on top of their game when it comes to safety this season.

“It’s easy to get lost in a football game, but make sure everything in your kitchen is safe before you sit down to watch, or head out to the pub.

“And, if you do plan on drink- ing, please don’t get behind the wheel – even being slightly over the limit is enough to cause a collision.”

Most of the games will be played at 5pm or 8pm in the evening throughout the 30-day tournament.

A CFRS spokeswoman has advised residents to take care if watching the games and celebrating,

Safety advice for the kitchen includes testing smoke alarms, not leaving cookers or grills unattended, and keeping tea towels and cloths away from cooking devices.

People are also being advised to double check that a cooker is off when finished.

If driving, they are being advised by CFRS not to drink and drive and to leave their car at home.

CFRS is also reminding people that they may still be over the limit the morning after a drinking session.
