Top honour for councillor

-

AFTER 40 years of unbroken service to Frodsham, a councillor has received the town’s highest honour.

Frodsham Town Council have bestowed the freedom of Frodsham to Waterside ward representative councillor Frank Pennington.

A special meeting and presentation was held at Frodsham Community Centre on June 1.

Cllr Pennington said he was ‘delighted’ to receive the award.

He said: “It’s humbling to know this has been suggested by fellow councillors and I’d like to thank my fellow Waterside councillor, Mallie Poulton, for his original proposal.

“I will continue to serve my residents with the same gusto and work together with my fellow councillors for the good of Frodsham.”

The highest honour the town can bestow, those who receive it can use the title of Freeman.

It also allows the privilege ‘to march through the streets of the town with colours flying, band playing and bayonets fixed’.

Newly elected mayor of Frodsham councillor Mallie Poulton was on hand to present his fellow FTC member with the award.

He said: “Frank deserves to receive this accolade having given four decades of dedication to local government in Frodsham.”

Mr Poulton began his new role after a civic service at St Laurence Church on June 1.

He is part of the team that organised a fundraising spectacular for Queen Elizabeth II’s birthday at Castle Park.
