Alison aiming to add value to VAT service
ANEW senior VAT manager has been appointed by a Widnes accountancy firm.
Alison Birch has joined Mitchell Charlesworth and has been tasked with expanding the firm’s VAT service and attracting new clients across the board.
Alison, who graduated with a psychology degree from the University Of Central Lancashire, started her career in VAT with Deloitte.
A move to KPMG gave her the opportunity to go on secondment to Paris, working for a large motor manufacturer, where she restructured its global supply chain.
Later, Alison worked for Daily Mail & General Trust as their VAT manager, subsequently returning to general practice at KPMG’s Birmingham office, before taking up her new position at Mitchell Charlesworth on Lunts Heath Road.
Alison said: “This is a great opportunity for me at Mitchell Charlesworth.
“VAT is constantly evolving, and many people find it mysterious, if not downright scary, and that’s why we’re keen to offer them professional and experienced help and advice.
“A large proportion of business’ cash flow can be tied up in VAT, and Mitchell Charlesworth emphasise that it is cru- cial to manage both payment and compliance efficiently.
“I’m looking forward to working with both existing and new clients to maximise their VAT opportunities and streamline their VAT processes.”
She has worked in VAT for more than 15 years, both in professional practice and industry and has specialist experience in the retail, manufacturing, media and healthcare sectors.
Her appointment is part of Mitchell Charlesworth’s ambitious ‘2020’ Vision plan to drive turnover to £10m, and become the top small and medium sized enterprise advisor in North West England.
Mitchell Charlesworth managing partner Paul Wainwright said: “Alison is highly experienced and skilled and will add great value to our team as the new senior VAT manager.
“She arrives with an impressive track record and will play an important role in driving forward our ambitious expansion plans.
“Mitchell Charlesworth is experienced in handling the often daunting prospect of dealing with HM Revenue And Customs on behalf of our clients.
“VAT rules change quickly, and we ensure your business is informed of any changes - including retrospective ones which can create opportunities for refunds – just as quick.
“This increasingly complex area of tax can cost businesses dear if VAT issues are not resolved promptly, or VAT saving opportunities are missed.
“Mitchell Charlesworth offer our clients greater value for money in terms of range and depth of specialist advice, and Alison’s appointment bolsters our already impressive range of advisory services.”
